Ethos and Uganda Heart Institute: A Heartfelt Success for the Brave Hearts Initiative

Just two weeks ago, on May 13th, 2025, the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) hosted a truly inspiring event, the “Brave Hearts Initiative,” and ETHOS was immensely proud to have delivered the comprehensive event management services for the second time, that brought this vision to life. The day was dedicated to boosting awareness of the critical connection between mind and heart in successful cardio interventional procedures for children, and it resonated deeply with everyone present.

Hotel Africana buzzed with emotion and hope as parents, paediatricians, and partners shared moving testimonies. These personal stories underscored the profound impact of UHI’s work and the resilience of the young patients they support. The presence of the esteemed Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, as the Guest of Honour, further elevated the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing cardiac health challenges in Uganda.

Celebrating the Brave Hearts Journey

This event’s core objective was clear: celebrating the journey of Brave Hearts in transforming congenital heart care in Uganda. It was a powerful platform to acknowledge strides made in reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment, and to foster essential partnerships for better heart health across the nation. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the initiative actively works towards a future where every child with a congenital heart condition receives timely and effective care.

Why Partnering for Quality Health and Inclusion Matters

Delivering successful events isn’t just about logistics; it’s about amplifying critical messages and fostering meaningful connections. Our collaboration with the Uganda Heart Institute for the Brave Hearts Initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Judith Namuyonga, is a testament to the power of partnering with entities that actively promote quality health and inclusion.

This event directly contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being: By raising awareness about cardiac health, encouraging early diagnosis, and supporting treatment, the initiative directly contributes to better health outcomes for Ugandans, especially children.
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: The Brave Hearts Initiative strives to ensure that all children, regardless of their background, have access to vital cardiac care and support, thereby reducing health disparities.
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals: Our collaboration with UHA exemplifies how effective partnerships between civil society organizations and service providers can achieve impactful results for sustainable development.

Smart Solutions for Sustainable Event Management

We are also thrilled to report on the significant efficiencies and sustainable practices implemented for the Brave Hearts Initiative:

  • Virtual Innovation, Real Savings: For over 80 esteemed guests, we implemented a seamless virtual registration and check-in system. This innovative approach not only saved considerable paper but also drastically reduced time spent on manual processes and optimized human resource allocation. The financial savings achieved through this digital transformation were substantial, allowing UHA to channel more resources directly into their vital programs.
  • 100% Local Sourcing, Community Impact: In line with our commitment to local economic empowerment, every single vendor involved in the event – from catering to audio-visual – was sourced from within Uganda. This not only ensured high-quality service but also directly supported local businesses and communities.
  • Reusable Decor, Sustainable Future: The event’s decor was thoughtfully designed with reusability in mind. Instead of single-use elements, we opted for items that can be repurposed for future UHI events or other initiatives, minimizing waste and promoting environmental responsibility.

The Brave Hearts Initiative was more than just an event; it was a powerful affirmation of hope, resilience, and the unwavering dedication of the Uganda Heart Institute. ETHOS is incredibly proud to have played a part in its success and looks forward to supporting more initiatives that champion health, inclusion, and sustainable practices in Uganda.
